After reading Ann Brashares' 3 Willows, which was a good and interesting read, I decided to read this book too. I found that I like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants better because it was about older girls who are in high school and watching their lives evolve before them. Tibby, Lena, Bridget, and Carmen are faced with their very first summer apart when their different interests and personalities lead them to different places. Lena goes to visit her grandparents in Greece. What she finds is her first true romance despite her shyness. Lena and Kostos' romance has readers at the edge of their seats wondering what the usually shy and reserved Lena will do next as she breaks out of her shell into the wonders of her first true love. Bridget has a similar experience at soccer camp when she falls for the incredibly stunning but off-limits camp counselor/coach Eric. Carmen, on the other hand, is the spectator of a romance that she'd rather not witness as she visits her father, and soon-to-be step family. Tibby is the only member of the sisterhood who remains at home. But this what seems to be ordinary summer at home is far from ordinary as Tibby learns life lessons from Bailey, a young girl with leukemia. Tibby sets out to record a documentary full of satire about her hometown, but instead learns to see life out of Bailey's eyes.
ReplyDeleteThis novel is definitely a page turner. Every chapter has readers wanting to know more about these girls and their summer experiences. What I loved about the book was also the quotes at the beginning of each chapter which were relevant to the novel and life lessons in themselves.
Exactly. I always feel like books are far better than the movie versions so I tend to pick both and do a sort of compare/contrast between the two. In my experience, most books have a power over me that movies don't seem to but some examples include Dear john and The last Song, where I'd arugue the movie does not even come close to comparing to the book!
ReplyDeleteI have not read the books in the series, but after seeing the movies and reading these reviews it has inspired me to read the books.
